Throughout Black History Month, colleagues across Genuit have been coming together to celebrate Black history and culture, share experiences and learn from one another.

This year’s activities have provided opportunities for colleagues to connect through food, conversation and shared learning, while also hearing directly from people across our business about what their heritage and culture mean to them.

At our Leeds office, colleagues came together to enjoy a selection of Black and Caribbean cuisine, including favourites such as jollof rice and puff puff. As well as being an opportunity to enjoy some fantastic food, the event encouraged conversations about the cultures, traditions and experiences represented across our business.

Sharing stories and experiences

At the heart of this year’s Black History Month activities have been the voices of our colleagues.

By sharing personal stories, experiences and reflections on their heritage, colleagues have helped others gain a deeper understanding of different backgrounds and perspectives. These conversations are an important part of building connections across our business and creating a culture in which people feel respected, valued and able to be themselves.

Colleagues have also been sharing recommendations for books, films, podcasts and other resources exploring Black history, culture, achievements and experiences, encouraging learning and conversation to continue beyond Black History Month.

It has been fantastic to see people from across the business taking part, including members of our senior leadership team, joining colleagues to listen, learn, celebrate and connect.

Continuing the conversation

Black History Month provides an important opportunity to recognise and celebrate Black history, culture and achievement, but our commitment to creating an inclusive organisation extends throughout the year.

At Genuit, we want to create an environment where different perspectives and experiences are welcomed and where everyone has the opportunity to feel that they belong.

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to this year’s activities, whether by sharing their story, recommending a resource, attending an event or simply taking the opportunity to listen and learn.

By continuing these conversations beyond Black History Month, we can keep learning from one another and build an even more inclusive culture across Genuit.
