Genuit is committed to supporting biodiversity net gain through our own actions and through our products and services

Genuit is committed to supporting biodiversity both in terms of managing on-site operations and their interaction with the local environment and helping the built environment to increase biodiversity net gain through our product offerings. Genuit’s engagement as a leader in surface water management, together with the expertise and data captured from our blue-green roofs, supports and encourages the industry to adopt a ‘stacking’ approach, combining water and ecosystems services to obtain Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) requirements.

Biodiversity on-site

Genuit operates a wide range of manufacturing and support sites, and where possible we promote areas for the benefit of wildlife. One example is the renovations to the office roof at the Polypipe Building Services site in Aylesford, Kent, which provided the perfect opportunity for the pilot installation of the Polypipe Smart Roof 2.1, a new, ‘intelligent’ roof-top system, combining water management with the creation of an amenity for staff, while also increasing the biodiversity of the area with its mix of flora, subsequent fauna – and even a bee-hive.

Green roof

The Polypipe blue-green roof system can be installed to provide areas of living vegetation at roof level. By providing source control for water, which would otherwise run-off to downstream attenuation systems or sewers, we are able to capture, treat and store water, primarily through infiltration, to be used for the purpose of irrigation to areas of vegetation.

Environmental and wildlife products

Modern building practices have greatly improved the quality of new homes in the UK, however not to the benefit of everyone. Bird species, such as swifts, and bats have occupied cracks and crevices in our buildings for thousands of years, but the improved standard and style of modern construction has put their survival in our towns and cities at risk. Manthorpe’s nest bricks have been developed in conjunction with major house builders and conservation experts to provide a safe, spacious and habitable area to allow nesting within the construction of modern houses.
